Coluracetam, a member of the racemate family of nootropic compounds, also known as MKC-231, is a nootropic compound with cognitive-enhancing and neuroprotective effects. Coluracetam works by modulating the cholinergic system. It is thought to increase levels of acetylcholine, a key neurotransmitter in the brain closely linked to learning and memory functions. Coluracetam does this by increasing the number and activity of choline uptake transporters, thereby enhancing the release of acetylcholine and improving signaling between neurons. Some early experimental and animal studies suggest that Coluracetam has potential neuroprotective and cognitive-enhancing effects. Some other studies have found that Coluracetam has a certain improvement effect on memory impairment in AD models.
